Every yard should have chives.
You don’t need a garden, just a little bit of soil.
They’ll grow and spread and make pretty flowers, and when you want to add a special something to your pizza or your baked potato or your omelet or your cream cheese you can step outside and snip a bunch, rain or shine.
If you’ve got chives covered, and you want to step it up a notch, plant yourself some hardneck garlic. For the garlic you’ll eat year round, of course, but also for the scapes that will pop up just as summer makes its appearance. Curly green sculptures that make absolutely anything burst with flavor.
Fair warning: You may want to stock up on tictacs.
