An empty cake plate is a sad and lonely thing.
I’ve taken on the personal challenge of never leaving ours empty for a full day. Ideally, it’s only empty long enough to wash it. Brownies, muffins, cakes, breads – pretty much any baked good will make this plate happy.
Yesterday I relocated the two pieces of vanilla pound cake which were lingering on the plate and cleaned it up for its next appointment: chocolate cake. No need for a secret family recipe here. The one on the back of the Hershey’s Cocoa box will do just fine.
And if my cake should end up slightly imperfect? If it leans to the side a bit or is a little crumbly around the edges?
The plate doesn’t mind. It’ll do its best to make the cake look appealing, then sit back and enjoy the constant stream of hands picking up and replacing its cover.
